Preserve Pond Perfection!

Setting up, cleaning and maintaining your pond doesn’t have to be a chore. Jungle makes it easy with the right products and a few simple steps.

Promoting the Cycle – If your pond is new or you are re-establishing an existing pond, you may need help to start the natural biological cycle that will help keep your pond clean and clear. Pond Clear-Zyme blocks or Pond Clear Zyme Concentrate contain millions of beneficial enzymes and bacteria that help jump start a pond into “cycling” to establish and maintain a healthy biologically balanced environment.

Ammonia – When starting up and “cycling” a new pond, ammonia levels can spike. Fish become excitable, stressed and may dart around the pond. This is a normal part of the “cycling” process.

Cloudy Water – Bacterial blooms can cause cloudy water, especially in new ponds. Sometimes referred to as the “new pond syndrome”, this is a natural part of the biological cycle, and the water will soon become clear. Simply wait a couple of days to allow the pond to clear up naturally.

  • TIP: If the cloudiness is unsightly to you, use Pond Water Clear to help decrease the cloudiness.

Nitrites – Rising nitrite levels can be toxic to fish. This rise occurs as the ammonia begins to fall during the normal “cycling” of a new pond. Test water with Quick Dip Pond Test Kit.

Nitrates – Nitrate levels rise as the ammonia and nitrite levels fall in a pond that is being “cycled.” This change is part of the end of the cycling process. You can verify nitrate levels using a Quick Dip Pond Test Kit.

Starter Fish for Cycling a Pond – Live fish are part of the cycling process for a pond because they eat and produce biological waste. The process of “cycling” can include drastic changes in water quality before stabilization occurs, so you’ll have fewer fish losses by stocking healthy, resilient fish.

  • TIP: Start with just a few inexpensive, hardy fish such as Comets.

Water Testing – The key to a healthy pond is establishing and maintaining good water quality. Test your pond water at least every 2 weeks to ensure optimal water health.

  • TIP: The Quick Dip Pond Test Kit offers a fast, effective way to test for levels of pH, nitrate, nitrite, hardness, and alkalinity. Follow the recommendations for treatment offered on the package to help keep pond water quality healthy.

Algae Growth – Algae grows on the side of your pond, turning the water green. As it continues to grow, the water turns a deeper green.

Foam – Foam that forms in pond water should be removed to leave water clean and clear. Use Pond No More Foam to eliminate the problem.

Shading the Pond – Shade protects fish and plants from excess UV rays.

  • TIP: You can safely tint pond water a beautiful blue to add shade for fish and plants with Pond Water Shade. It’s safe and nontoxic.

Sludge – Food debris and fish waste create unsightly layers of sludge on the bottom of ponds, throwing off the biological balance.
