Summer

SITUATION

SOLUTION

Pond activity increases and fish need several feedings a day. The increase in activity may result in elevated ammonia and nitrite levels in your pond. Test pond water regularly to assure it is properly balanced to support healthy fish and plants. Use the Quick Dip® Pond Test Kit featuring multi-test strips, and Ammonia Quick Dip® test strips. Use Pond Start®, Pond Ammonia Chloramine Remover™, Pond pH Increaser®, or Pond pH Decreaser® to maintain pond water quality. Add Fortified Pond Salts when nitrite levels are high to make water safer for your fish.
Unsafe nitrite levels Reduce unsafe nitrite levels with a water change, using Pond Start®.  Unsafe nitrite levels are usually an indication that ammonia is present. Check ammonia levels and use Pond Ammonia Chloramine Remover™ to adjust as needed. Use Pond Ammonia Chloramine Remover™ if your tap water also contains chloramines. Add Pond Clear-Zyme® blocks or concentrate to maintain a healthy biological filtration and keep nitrite levels safe. Add Fortified Pond Salts to make water safer for your fish during the nitrite spike.
Unsafe alkalinity levels Alkalinity levels determine the ability to maintain a constant pH in pond water. If it is at a dangerous level (too high or too low), then so is the pH. To adjust alkalinity, add Pond pH Decreaser® or Pond pH Increaser® as needed.
Unsafe pH levels pH is the measure of acidity or alkalinity. Water that is too acidic or too alkaline can adversely affect fish and plant life. To adjust pH levels, add Pond pH Decreaser® or Pond pH Increaser® as needed.
Extreme sunlight Use Pond Water Shade® to protect fish and plants from extreme sunlight and UV rays. It tints the water a beautiful shade of blue to reduce light penetration into pond water.
Water garden plants need help growing and blooming Use Aquatic Plant Food Tabs to continually feed potted water garden plants. Healthy plants not only provide oxygen for the pond, but also help reduce the buildup of algae, since they compete for the same nutrients in the water.
Summer routine maintenance Make regular 25% water changes using Pond Start® and Pond Ammonia Chloramine Remover™ as needed. Replenish the salt level during water changes by adding Fortified Pond Salts. Throughout the summer, use the Action Cleaning Pack® (one block each of Pond Block® and Pond Clear-Zyme®) to prevent algae growth and maintain the pond’s natural biological balance.
