How to Create a Container Pond

I. Place oxygenating and floating potted plants into the container/pot. Keep the plants in their original planters to prevent their roots from growing too large and taking over the pond.  When placing plants, set the marginal plants toward the back (to hide tubing); the floaters in the middle, and the oxygenators in the front. Push Aquatic Plant Food Tabs into the soil of your plants to give them extra nutrients. This will help your plants grow large and full.

II. Place Jungle® Dirt Magnet® sponge filter snugly between two of the plants/planters, on the bottom of the container, as this will keep it under water and not visible.

III. Pour rocks into the bottom of the container and over the filter. Fill until the bottom of the plants are covered. This not only hides the filter and planters, but it looks more inviting. The rocks also create a natural filter that keeps your water clean and clear. Place your marginal plants on top of gravel. The top of the pot should be either out of the water or no more than one inch below water level. To give a more natural look use large pond rocks on top of the soil in the pot.

IV. Fill the container with water: two inches from the top.

V. Dechlorinate the tap water with Pond Start®; this makes the water safe immediately for plants and fish. If your water looks murky from floating

debris, use Pond Water Clear® . For added protection your can use Ammonia Chlorine Remover (ACE® ) to remove ammonia and chloramines. You can find all of these products in the Jungle® Pond Kit.

VI. Plug the aerator into your sponge filter and turn it on. This creates a nice bubble effect. Add one or two small fish if you wish or a decorative floating candle.

VII. Relax and enjoy!
